Smart Outfitters is operated by Smartout Media Inc. We collect as little as we can and never sell your information.
What we collect
If you only browse, nothing that identifies you by name. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people; it sets cookies and receives your IP address and browser details, which Google may process outside Canada. In Quebec, and in other places where the law requires it, we ask first with a banner; elsewhere it’s on unless you turn it off with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. To know whether to ask, our server looks up your approximate region from your IP address using a location database kept on our server (IP Geolocation by DB-IP); nothing is sent elsewhere or stored. If you sign in: your name, email and, if you use Google or Facebook, your profile photo. If you send an inquiry, the details you type go to that outfitter.
How we use it
To run your account, show your reviews with the name you choose, send the emails you asked for, and keep the site safe from spam and fraud. Payments are handled by Stripe; we only see the last 4 digits of a card. The site runs in Toronto, but our database, email and file storage services are in the United States, so your information is stored there and may be accessed under U.S. law.
Your choices
You can download your data or delete your account at any time from Your account › Account and security. Deleting removes your sign-in, favourites and reviews; you have 30 days to change your mind, then it’s permanent. Inquiries you sent stay with the outfitters who received them.
